Egypt: Sugar Annual

Egypt's sugar production in marketing year (MY) 2026/27 (October to September) is projected at 3.0 million metric tons (MMT), a decline of 180,000 metric tons (MT) from MY 2025/26 estimates due to reduced beet sugar output and a slight drop in cane sugar production. In MY 2025/26, Egyptian importers and some industries capitalized on falling global sugar prices by importing and refining raw sugar at costs significantly lower than processing domestic production, which prompted the Egyptian government to regulate both raw and refined sugar imports to balance local market supply and demand. Higher global energy prices continue to drive up costs for domestic sugarcane production and processing in Egypt.

Peru: Peru Approves New Technology Guidelines

On March 6, 2026, Peru approved Ministerial Resolution 068-2026-MINAM-DM, implementing the regulatory New Technologies (NT) Act, or new guidelines that determine the status of NTs excluded from the broad biotechnology-derived seed cultivation moratorium. The regulation opens a pathway for biotech seed cultivation derived from new genomic techniques under a new definition of “Living Modified Organism” (LMO). The regulation creates a self-registration system to track new product developments with a 30-day review window under the authority of the Ministry of Environment's (MINAM).

China: 37 National Food Safety Standards Released for Public Comments

On April 17, 2026, China published 37 draft national food safety standards soliciting public comments until June 6, 2026. At the time of this report, China has not notified the draft standards to the WTO. This report contains an unofficial translation of the list of standards. Stakeholders are advised to review the regulations to assess any market or regulatory impacts on their business.

Honduras: Exporter Guide Annual

In 2025, U.S. exports of agricultural and related products to Honduras totaled $1.3 billion, accounting for a 39.6 percent market share and a 5.6 percent increase from the previous year. Growth was driven by a $76 million rise in consumer-oriented products, while bulk products declined by $5 million and intermediate products decreased slightly by $0.4 million. The leading exports by value were corn, soybean meal, pork and pork products, cotton, and rice. The United States maintains an agricultural trade surplus with Honduras.

Netherlands: US Biofuels Exports to the Netherlands Surge - New Markets Arise

In 2025, the Netherlands imported $535 million of U.S. biofuels, solidifying its role as a key hub for sustainable road, aviation, and shipping fuels. Starting in 2026, Dutch legislation imposes greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction mandates for marine and inland bunker suppliers, aiming to meet strict emission targets. While the shipping sector explores various alternatives, a significant shift toward biobased diesel fuels is anticipated to meet these evolving requirements. These regulatory changes, particularly focusing on waste-based biofuels in the Port of Rotterdam, are creating new market opportunities for U.S. biofuels and as well as feedstock suppliers.

Thailand: Shipping Fruit to Thailand this Season - Verify Maximum Residue Limits

Prior to exporting to Thailand, U.S. exporters are advised to review the country’s Maximum Residue Limits (MRL) and work with their importers to ensure compliance. Since July 22, 2025, Thailand has combined its regulations governing MRLs into a single risk-based regulatory framework. Shipments of the same fruit from the same exporter with a violation are subject to 100 percent inspection until the exporter sends three consecutive and compliant commercial shipments to Thailand. This report also provides information specific to cherry and table grape exports.

European Union: EU Commission Publishes Simplification Review Report on Deforestation Regulation

On May 4, 2026, the European Commission published its simplification review report on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), delivering a package of measures aimed at reducing administrative burden while maintaining the regulation's environmental objectives. The package includes an updated guidance document, revised Frequently Asked Questions, a draft delegated act proposing changes to product scope, and updates to the Information System. Despite U.S. requests, the Commission has not addressed key U.S. concerns with EUDR, including a request that producers in countries posing negligible risk not be required to produce due diligence statements or provide onerous geolocation data.

India: India Amends Its Food Labeling and Display Rules

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has published amendments to the Food Safety and Standards (Labeling and Display) Regulations, 2020, for pre-packaged food products. The amendments will take effect on July 1, 2027.

South Korea: FAIRS Country Report Annual

This Food and Agricultural Import Regulations and Standards (FAIRS) is an annual report and outlines Republic of Korea (ROK) technical policies, practices and import requirements for edible food products, with a focus on further-processed products destined for human or animal consumption. The report also captures changes, and impending changes, to these ROK regulations. In 2025, the ROK announced a Food Sanitation Act revision that expands genetically engineered (GE) labeling requirements for soy sauce, saccharides, and edible oils that contain GE-derived ingredients but do not contain detectable GE components. Also in 2025, the ROK announced revisions to the Notice on Warning Labeling for Excessive Drinking. FAS/Seoul updated Sections I, II, IV, V, VI, VII, IX, X and Appendix I, II from last year.

Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka Invites WTO Members to Comment on Draft Food Labelling and Advertising Regulations 2026

On April 07, 2026, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of a draft regulation on food (labelling and advertising) regulations 2026. WTO members are invited to submit comments on notification G/SPS/N/LKA/38/Add.3. The comment period expires on June 06, 2026.

Ukraine: FAIRS Geographical Indications Report

This report provides a detailed overview of Ukrainian laws and regulations related to the registration and circulation of food products, mineral waters, alcoholic, and non-alcoholic beverages protected by geographical indications (GIs) in Ukraine. After signing the EU Association Agreement in 2014, with major amendments implemented in 2025, Ukraine has fully aligned its GI system with related EU regulations. From 2020-2025, Ukraine adopted several regulations, creating a sophisticated GI registration and control system. On January 1, 2026, the transition period that allowed for limited use of EU-registered GIs expired, and all food products and beverages, including imported products, must comply with the new regulations. For U.S. exporter reference, FAS/Kyiv prepared a complete list of registered GIs.

Uzbekistan: Cotton and Products Annual

This report revises MY 2025/26 lint production to 750,000 MT and forecasts MY 2026/27 at 780,000 MT. Hydrological deficits, with Amu Darya flow at 66.8 percent of historical norm, represent the primary downside risk for the coming season. Uzbekistan's textile sector is gradually shifting toward higher-value fabric and garment exports, supported by record government investment, though sector profitability remains under pressure from rising electricity tariffs and soft demand in traditional export markets.
