Admission Guidelines for International Students of
Gansu Agricultural University

Gansu Agricultural University (GAU) is a university co-constructed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People's Republic of China and the People's Government of Gansu Province. It is one of the key universities in the central and western regions under national construction and a high-level university in Gansu Province. As a teaching and research-oriented university, it takes agricultural disciplines as its advantages and characteristics, with coordinated development of multiple disciplines including science, engineering, economics, management and literature. The university aims to build a high-level university with prominent advantages and distinctive features, adheres to the educational philosophy of "promoting human health and benefiting national livelihood", and is rooted in Gansu, serving the western region and radiating the whole country. It has made remarkable achievements in talent training, scientific research, social services and cultural inheritance, providing strong intellectual support and talent guarantee for the modernization of agriculture in the western region and even the whole country, and making important contributions to the development of higher agricultural education in China. The university began enrolling postgraduates in 1953, and is one of the first batch of universities in China authorized to confer bachelor's and master's degrees, and the second batch of universities authorized to confer doctoral degrees. Currently, the university has 8 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 1 interdisciplinary doctoral degree authorization point, 1 professional doctoral degree authorization category, 20 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points and 14 professional master's degree authorization categories.

The university has successively signed cooperation agreements with more than 80 universities, scientific research institutions and international organizations in more than 30 countries, carrying out pragmatic exchanges and cooperation in joint student training, academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation. It has established the "Gansu Agricultural University President's Scholarship for International Students" to attract outstanding international students to pursue master's and doctoral degrees at the university.
The enrollment of international students for the 2026-2027 academic year has now started. The specific matters are announced as follows:
1. Enrollment Categories and Quotas
Degree Students: Approximately 20 students in total for doctoral and master’s degree programs.
2. Disciplines and Majors
Relevant disciplines and majors of the university with doctoral and master's degree conferment rights enroll international students for academic education. For details, please refer to the List of Enrollment Majors for International Students of Gansu Agricultural University (Appendix 1 and Appendix 2).
3. Mode and Length of Study
(1) The study mode for international students enrolled by our university is full-time.
Our university implements a two-semester system, with the first semester from September to January, and the second semester from March to July.
(2) The academic system for academic master's students is 3 years, and for academic doctor.
(3) International students admitted this time will enroll in late August 2026 and directly commence their major studies. Students registering in late February 2027 will conduct intensive Chinese language study and will proceed to their major studies upon meeting the university's Chinese language proficiency requirements.
4. Chinese Language Requirements
Applicants for Fall 2026 admission must have a basic command of Chinese and hold a valid HSK certificate at the required level. For Spring 2027 applicants, the Chinese proficiency requirement may be appropriately relaxed, nevertheless, the specified HSK certificate shall be obtained before the commencement of professional courses.
Master's degree students pursuing a degree must obtain an HSK certificate with a score of 200 in the new HSK4 Level before enrollment (late August 2026).
Doctoral degree students pursuing a degree must obtain an HSK certificate with a score of 180 in the new HSK3 Level before enrollment (late August 2026).
5. Application Eligibility
(1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport, in good physical and mental health, with good character, friendly towards China, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the university.
(2) Academic and age requirements for applicants:
For master's degree programs: Applicants must have obtained a bachelor's degree or equivalent academic qualification, and generally be under 35 years old.
For doctoral degree programs: Applicants must have obtained a master's degree or equivalent academic qualification, and generally be under 45 years old.
6. Submission of Application Materials
All applicants shall register and complete the application information on the International Student Online Service System of Gansu Agricultural University https://gsau.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx, and upload the corresponding application documents as follows:
(1) Academic Information Form: including personal educational background, work experience (if applicable), academic research achievements, as well as study or research plans in China.
(2) Highest academic diploma and academic transcript (notarization required).
(3) Letters of recommendation: Two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors (in Chinese or English).
(4) Language proficiency certificate: HSK score report or other Chinese language learning certificate, TOEFL or IELTS certificate, or other English proficiency certificate.
(5) Certificate of enrollment or employment: Current students or employed applicants shall provide a certificate issued by their school or employer.
(6) Foreigner Physical Examination Record: Issued by the local entry-exit inspection and quarantine authority. The record shall be completed strictly in accordance with the required items. The record shall be invalid if it is expired, incomplete, without a photo, without an official cross-seal on the photo, or without the signature and seal of the doctor or hospital.
(7) Certificate of No Criminal Record: Issued by the relevant authority in the country of citizenship or permanent residence. The certificate must be in Chinese or English; non-Chinese/English documents must be accompanied by a notarized Chinese or English translation, and shall be notarized and authenticated by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country. The issue date of the certificate shall be no more than six months before the submission date. Applicants who have resided continuously in China for more than six months may submit a Certificate of No Criminal Record issued by the local public security organ.
(8) Financial guarantee (e.g., bank deposit certificate).
(9) Self-introduction video: 2–3 minutes in Chinese or English.

7. Application Deadline
Applicants must submit the materials before May 20, 2026.
8. Admission Qualification and Time
Based on the applicant's overall qualifications, the availability of faculty in the chosen major, recommendations from prospective supervisors, and the university's review, Gansu Agricultural University will select the best candidates for admission. After approval, the university will issue the Admission Notice and the JW-202 Form to the admitted students.
Registration time: August 31 to September 4, 2026. Students must report to the university on time with the admission notice. Those who fail to go through the deferment formalities and exceed the registration time by 7 days will have their admission qualification canceled.
9. Expenses
Our university provides the "Gansu Agricultural University President's Scholarship" for outstanding international master's and doctoral students, with priority given to doctoral international students.
Doctoral Programs: Within the standard academic duration (4 years), tuition and accommodation fees are fully waived. A monthly living allowance of RMB 1,000 is provided for 10 calendar months per year, excluding February and August (winter and summer vacations).
Master’s Programs: For academic master students (standard study duration: 3 years) and professional master students (standard study duration: 2 years), tuition and accommodation fees are fully waived. A monthly living allowance of RMB 1,000 is provided for 10 calendar months per year, excluding February and August (winter and summer vacations).
Other expenses shall be borne by the student, including: Physical examination fee: approximately 400 RMB. Visa fee: approximately 400 RMB. Insurance fee: 1000 RMB per year (to be purchased before coming to China to ensure the insurance is valid upon entry). Textbook fees, living expenses, miscellaneous fees, etc.
