Thailand: Grain and Feed Monthly

Thai rice exports are firmly in recovery. African buyers now take the largest share of shipments, while steady orders from ASEAN markets, particularly Malaysia and the Philippines, driven by El Niño stockpiling, have kept the pace strong through July. Export prices softened before regaining ground in most grades of rice, with only the lowest grades still under pressure from cheaper Indian supply. On the supply side, rainfall remains below normal across the main rice-growing regions, reservoir levels trail last year by a wide margin. This season's water allocation from major reservoirs for the Chao Phraya basin reaches low levels and forecasters expect El Niño to strengthen further through year-end.

United Kingdom: UK Suspends Tariff on Liquid Fertilizer Imports

On July 13, 2026 the United Kingdom’s Department of Business Innovation Science and Trade (DBIST) suspended its 6 percent tariff on Urea Ammonium Nitrate (UAN), a liquid nitrogen fertilizer. The United States is the dominant exporter of UAN to the UK. The tariff suspension closes a competitive gap that opened when the European Union (EU) eliminated tariffs on UAN and other fertilizers on May 31, 2026. The move is expected to save U.S. exporters millions of dollars per year and support continued export growth to the UK.

In Australia, all food, whether imported or locally produced, must adhere to a comprehensive set of laws designed to safeguard consumer, plant, and animal health. Specifically, all imported food is first required to meet quarantine and imported food regulations before also satisfying food safety requirements.

China: Dalian Market Profile

With a population of 7.54 million and GDP of $143 billion in 2025, Dalian is Northeast China’s leading maritime gateway and a key distribution hub for imported food and agricultural products. The city’s deep-water port, bonded cold-storage facilities, seafood processing sector, and logistics infrastructure support imports and distribution throughout Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, and eastern Inner Mongolia. Dalian’s hospitality sector, seafood-focused dining culture, and food processing industry create opportunities for U.S. suppliers of seafood, beef, pork, dairy products, tree nuts, wine, and food ingredients. The city’s seafood processing cluster provides opportunities for imported raw materials used in domestic distribution, further processing, and re-export. For U.S. exporters, the strongest market entry opportunities are through local importers, foodservice distributors, seafood processors, and premium retail channels.

India: Monsoon Recovery Fails to Boost Sluggish Crop Planting

By August 1st, India’s 2026 southwest monsoon has reduced the cumulative seasonal rainfall deficit to 11.5 percent below the long period average (LPA). Despite this surge, Kharif crop sowing remains sluggish, with total planted acreage trailing by 3.88 million hectares year-on-year as of late July. Live storage in 166 major reservoirs stands at 44.39 percent of capacity. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts below normal rainfall (less than 94 percent of LPA) for both August 2026 and the second half of the monsoon season (August to September 2026), driven by strengthening El Niño conditions. Government extension advisories are actively directing farmers toward climate resilient practices.

Vietnam: Vietnam Notifies Draft Replacement to the Food Safety Law of 2010

On August 3, 2026, Vietnam's Food Administration, under the Ministry of Health (MOH), submitted notification G/SPS/N/VNM/187 to the World Trade Organization's Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Committee, announcing a Draft Replacement to the Food Safety Law of 2010. The comment period for this draft closes August 17, 2026. The draft is scheduled for submission to the National Assembly for approval in October 2026, with entry into force set for January 1, 2027. China: China Announces Preliminary Ruling in Anti-dumping Investigation on Pecans from the United States and Mexico

Starting August 11, 2026, importers of pecans from the United States and Mexico must pay provisional anti-dumping duties, in the form of deposits, following a preliminary ruling by the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced on August 10. Imports from the United States are subject to a deposit rate of 54.3 percent of the product value, pushing the total import duty rate for U.S. pecans to 86.3 percent. For pecans from Mexico, the provisional deposit rates range from 17.8 percent to 51.6 percent. South Africa: South African Blueberry Market Analysis

South Africa is expanding its role in the global blueberry market, supported by favorable production conditions and strategic market positioning. Blueberry production in South Africa has grown to 38,900 metric tons (MT) in marketing year (MY) 2025/26. Blueberry consumption in South Africa is growing, but production continues to be export focused. In MY 2024/25, South Africa exported 22,605 MT of blueberries, a 6.7 percent increase from the previous season. While the United States recently gained access to the South African blueberry market and could see some exports, the strongest opportunities remain in propagating materials.

China: ATO Beijing Supports Hawaii Specialty Coffee to Expand Commercial Opportunities in Premium Coffee Market

On June 1, ATO Beijing partnered with the Synergistic Hawaii Agricultural Council (SHAC), to host our second annual Hawaii coffee cupping event in Beijing. Approximately thirty local coffee shop owners, baristas, importers, roasters, and key opinion leaders (KOLs) attended and tasted nine varieties of coffee beans from Hawaii. Participants were eager to explore options for placing consolidated orders for Hawaii coffee beans in the near term.

China: Changsha - China's Youth Capital of New Consumption

Changsha stands out as one of central China’s most dynamic consumer markets, powered by a young population, strong spending power, and a vibrant entertainment driven lifestyle. The city’s $230 billion economy and fast-growing retail and food-service sectors make it a national trendsetter for new consumption models, imported products, and innovative retail formats. Rapid expansion of health focused supermarkets, snack chains, craft beer venues, and bubble tea brands further reinforces Changsha’s role as a leading testbed for U.S. food and agricultural exports. U.S. dairy ingredients, dried fruits, snack foods, meat products, brewing ingredients, and concentrated juices are exceptionally well-positioned to capture rising demand for quality, novelty, and international flavors among local consumers.

Mexico: Poultry and Products Annual

Mexico’s poultry sector is expected to maintain momentum in 2027, with chicken meat product forecasted to rise 2 percent to 4.4 million metric tons. This growth is supported by continued capital investment, improved production efficiency, and consumer demand. Consumption is forecast to increase alongside population growth, urbanization, and continued demand for affordable, convenient protein options across traditional markets, foodservice outlets, and modern retail channels. Exports from the United States to Mexico are expected to remain strong, supported by established commercial relationships, supplier networks, and continued demand from Mexico’s processing and foodservice sectors.
