The eighth-generation Kent family farm in central Ohio’s Crawford County relies on John Deere’s Operations Center for guidance and monitoring. With remote access, Kent and the team can troubleshoot equipment issues or data discrepancies in real time without needing to be in the field.
When a new hire joins the team, they don’t start behind a desk; they start in the cab. Kent walks them through Operations Center, then hands them the tablet so they can see how each field pass translates into data.

With Operation Center’s constant improvements, Kent said she especially appreciates that her 71-year-old father has fully embraced the technology, using it daily to stay involved in the family’s farm operations. Kent said she has watched her father adapt to new tools and technology with ease.
For Kent, hands-on learning is the only way to build confidence with precision ag tools. She enjoys attending offseason training seminars to build knowledge and confidence she can bring back to the operation and implement with employees. This helps the Kent family reduce dealer dependence.
“Don’t be afraid to experiment,” Kent said. “Test equipment before the season, familiarize yourself with settings, and keep exploring new capabilities.”
She said future farmworkers will need adaptability and curiosity more than deep technical repair skills, since much of today’s equipment is proprietary and dealer dependent.

Operations Center is the farm’s main data platform. Senter said his philosophy is to let the equipment do its job and manage data remotely rather than complicating the operator’s environment.
